Frequently
Asked Questions
Q. I
am the statistician for my cricket association and want to
deploy Cricket Statz Professional to all of our clubs.
What is the best license scheme for me?
The bulk
club-wide license scheme has been designed for entire associations
and offers major discounts when more than 6 club-wide licenses
are purchased. You will need to purchase a club-wide
license for each club in your association. See the purchase
page for details on club-wide licensing.
Q. How
does the single user license differ from the club-wide license.
The single
user license allows a single, named person to use
Cricket Statz. It is not a concurrent license. The license
can only be used by the named user. The license can be transferred
to another individual within a club if the original named
user no longer uses the application.
The club-wide
license allows unlimited use of the application by members
of a single, named club. It is a multi-user license.
Q. I
have purchased a several licenses under the Bulk Club-wide
discount license scheme for the entire association. How do
I set up my clubs with Cricket Statz Pro so that our clubs
can start sending me match details each week?
First, you
need to have each club download the Cricket
Statz Pro application. Upon purchase, each Club would
have received an email with a web site address, username, password
and registration code for access to the professional edition download site. Ask your
clubs to download and install the application.
Second,
it is best if you prepare a blank database with all of the
clubs, teams, grades and grounds pre-loaded. This saves
your clubs having to do this themselves and introduces consistency
in naming conventions. Send this database (a .CSD file)
to your clubs and have them use it as the starting point for
their database.
Third,
instruct each club to enter match details at the end of each
week and then have them EXPORT the match details from the
Tools menu of Cricket Statz. They can either email you
the export file (a .MXP file) or save it to a floppy disk.
Q. How
often is Cricket Statz upgraded and how much are upgrades?
Cricket
Statz is constantly being improved. This has been occurring
at regular intervals since the application was first released
in 1997. Typically we release 3 to 4 minor versions (point releases)
per year with several new features. Point releases are always
available at no charge. For example, all 2007 edition releases
are free to existing 2007 edition customers.
Major release
upgrades are offered at a discounted rate to eligible existing customers.
See the purchase
page for details of upgrade eligibilty and pricing.
Q. I have purchased a new computer.
How do I move my Cricket Statz data?
You first need to re-install Cricket Statz
on your new computer. Refer to the email that was provided upon purchase for details on how to download
and install Cricket Statz. Once this has been done, locate your Cricket Statz database file (normally
with a .csd extension) and copy this single file across to your new computer. The .csd file contains your
entire database. Simply open this file on your new computer and you will be done.
Q. Does Cricket Statz work on a Mac?
Cricket Statz does not run natively on a Mac. However
many users report success with running Cricket Statz under a windows emulator. Please keep in mind that we
do not support the product when running under a windows emulators on a Mac.
Q. I would like to know the process for importing an MXP file but the trial version won't allow me to see this.
Cricket Statz 2007 Pro allows users to import matches that
have been exported by Cricket Statz or SportStatz. The Pro user will select the import option from
the file menu and then select the MXP file to be imported. Cricket Statz will attempt to match teams,
clubs, players, grounds and grades from the MXP file with entries in its database. Where it cannot
make a match, it asks the user to select the corresponding record or create it as a 'new' entry. Cricket Statz
will remember this selection for future.
Sometimes users will send different innings of the same match - this is fine, Cricket Statz
will first look to see if the match already exists and then import whatever data has been sent
through. Match consistency checking is not done during the import process but can be easily done
later by opening the match and hitting 'Save'.
Q. We recently purchased the Standard Edition and wish to move to the Professional Edition to
take advantage of the advanced features. Can we do this?
Absolutely. We offer a discounted upgrade
to the Professional Edition for existing customers.
Most customers that have recently purchased any of our earlier
versions can take advantage of this discount and upgrade their license.
See the purchase
page for details of upgrade pricing and eligibility.
Q. We purchased the Professional Edition
- Single User
License and wish to move to the Professional Edition - Club Wide license so that
other team managers and scorers in our club can use the program.
Can we do this?
Absolutely. We offer a discounted upgrade to the Pro Club-wide license for existing
customers. See the purchase
page for details of upgrade eligibility and pricing.
Q. I
have several players that have played with different clubs
during their career. Is it possible to allow a player to play
for two or more clubs and how do I set it up?
Most certainly!
Although Cricket Statz will enforce that a player be a member
of only one club at any point in time, changing that club
during or after a season is permitted (as the player moves
from one club to the next).
The way
to do this is to have only ONE record for the player. This
will ensure that career statistics are preserved. Do not be
tempted to have multiple records for the player for each club
in which he/she plays. When this player changes clubs, simply
change the club in the player setup screen. All the matches
that the player has played with previous clubs will still
be preserved. Additionally, this player will still show up
on statistics reports for the previous clubs even though he/she
no longer plays for that club.
Q. How
do I export and import matches?
You can
export matches using the Tools/Export option in the program.
This will export your selected matches to a text based .MXP
file. This can be done by both the professional and
standard editions.
To import
these matches into a new database, you will need the Tools/Import
feature of Cricket Statz Pro. Select the .MXP file and
the matches will be imported into your database.
Do not
try and import the main database file (.CSD). It simply will
not work.
Q. My
competition has complex rules for awarding competition points.
Cricket Statz only caters for Win, Loss, Tie, Draw, No Result.
How can I manage my points correctly?
Every association
has a different way of scoring competition points. Some have
very complex rules indeed. Rather than trying to cater for
every single possibility in the world, the Cricket Statz match
screen has a field for bonus competition points. You
should use this field to add or subtract points on a match
by match basis to comply with your association points requirements.
Q. I
would like coaches and team managers to enter scorecards online
so that I can import them into Cricket Statz Pro. How
do I do this?
Our SportStatz service
has been established to provide this function.
Q. I
coordinate all of the scorecards for an entire cricket association.
How can I use Cricket Statz to make scorecard collection easier?
This is
one of the biggest features of Cricket Statz Pro. Simply issue
all of the clubs in the association with the evaluation (free)
version Cricket Statz so that they can enter scorecards for
their own teams and then email these to you. As an owner of
Cricket Statz Pro, you will be able to import these directly
into your database at the click of a button!
Alternatively, our SportStatz service
provides match results collection functions and matches can be
imported into Cricket Statz Pro.
Q. How
do I interface Cricket Statz to the Eddson Willow Cricket
Scorebook application?
The Eddson
Willow Cricket Scorebook is designed to allow real-time scoring
to be performed while a match is in progress. Willow
Cricket Scorebook will allow you to export matches in an .MXP
format. These matches can then be imported by Cricket
Statz Pro users.
Q. What
does Cricket Statz Professional offer over Cricket Statz standard?
Cricket
Statz Pro allows you to generate a complete set of
statistics web pages at the push of a button. Cricket Statz
Pro also allows you to import matches that have been entered by
others and from historical text based scorecards. The Pro edition also
features a competition points table report. These features
are ideal for those clubs and associations that deal with
players in several different grades.
Q. When
generating end of season reports in my word processor, I notice
that the text output from Cricket Statz does not line up in
neat columns. How do I fix this?
Simply
select the font type as a fixed width font and all the columns
will line up perfectly. A good font for this is Courier New.
Q. My hard drive crashed and I have lost my registration
and download details. How can I get these re-sent to me?
Customers with supported product can
to have their registration details emailed to them.
Q. What
limit is there on the number of matches and players that I
can enter into Cricket Statz?
There is
no limit on the number of matches or players for a Cricket
Statz database other than the size of your hard drive. As
a rule, 100 matches will consume around 400kB of hard drive
space.
Q. Should
I create a new database for every new season?
No. You
should keep adding match data to a single database so that
you can maintain all records in a single file. You can easily
run season reports from the single database by limiting the
date range when you run the report.
Q. My
club has various junior competitions, grouped by age, and
various grades of senior competition. How should I set up
my databases?
This is
a very common requirement. All games in your senior competition
should be entered into a single database. This will allow
senior players to easily move up and down grades during the
season, if required. Statistics can easily be produced on
a per grade basis (if required) by selecting that grade when
running the reports. The junior database should be treated
the same way as the seniors, that is, having each age group
as a different grade. It is probably wise to separate the
junior and senior databases simply because players usually
do not move back and forth between the two.
